Fees and Rebates
I believe in providing an affordable service for all clients to access mental health support through a variety of options (please see below). The current Australian Psychological Society (APS) recommended fee for a standard 50-minute appointment is $311 per hour.
However, this can be challenging for some, so I strive to ensure that my services are affordable so that everyone can access the support they need. Note well that flexibility with fees is possible in the case of financial hardship but will need to be explicitly discussed prior to the initial appointment.
Consultation Fees, Rebates, and Payment Information!
Please note that each session fee is payable on the day of the appointment and you are required to pay the full fee after your consultation.
- Initial psychology consultations (50 mins) – $265
- Subsequent psychology consultations (50 mins) – $250
- Clinical Supervision (50 mins) – $230
- Workcover psychology consultations – $260
- Requests for Psychological letters or reports – Please see below.
- Clinical educator services for allied health professionals or professional staff development workshops – please email me to discuss.
Please note that each session fee is payable on whereby reception will call to collect payment. Appointments after 5:00pm will have a $20 after-hours surcharge added to the standard fee quoted above. An invoice/receipt of your payment will be provided to you for your records and can be used in the event of requiring reimbursements through a private health fund and/or third-party payer.
Letters or treatment reports outside of typical correspondence to the referring GP (i.e., initial, 6th and 10th session MHCP letters) will be billed at the rate of $125 per hour. Each request for a letter or report will be considered for suitability and an individualised quote will be provided and agreed upon before the work commences. The letter or report will only be provided once full payment has been received. Please note that I require at least two (2) weeks advance notice if you require a letter of support or a psychological report.
As a registered practitioner with Medicare, you are able to receive a financial rebate once you have received a mental health care plan (MHCP) referral from your General Practitioner (GP). This referral entitles you for up to ten (10) Medicare rebated sessions per calendar year (i.e., from January to December) and can also be applied to telehealth (video or phone) appointments.
The current MHCP rebate amount for psychological services provided by a Clinical Psychologist is $141.85 so you will still be required to pay for the gap amount of $123.15 for an initial 50-minute consultation and $108.15 for a subsequent 50-minute consultation out of pocket.
Of note, under the requirements of the Medicare Better Access Initiative, I am required to provide correspondence to the referring GP to update them about the type of treatment provided, your engagement, and progress for all MHCP referrals. I will remind you of this once therapy has commenced, but feel free to email me with any questions that you may have about the MHCP process.
Alternatively, you may also be eligible for accessing a Private Health Insurance Rebate under your private health fund provider.
The amount of financial coverage greatly varies, so please check with your own private health fund provider to determine if this is available to you on the health insurance coverage you have. Once confirmed as an option, we will provide an invoice/receipt for you to submit to your health fund rebate.
Please note that you cannot claim from both Medicare and your Private Health Fund for the same appointment.
Third party referrals
I also accept clients who will be supported by third-party payers such as Workcover, insurance claims, and the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA). You may be eligible for DVA funding if you have previously been a member of the Australian Defence Force, so please consult with your referring GP to determine if this is an option for you. Note well that fees are charged at the standard fee quoted above and are payable at the time of service. You will be issued with an invoice/receipt of the service which can be submitted to the third-party payer for reimbursement.
You do not need to worry if you do not have a referral or cannot access any of the above rebate options (e.g., if you are an international student). You do not need to be referred by your doctor to access psychological treatment, nor do you need to have a Mental Health Care Plan to engage in treatment with me – but you will not be able to access a MHCP rebate without an appropriate and updated referral. Please feel free to email me if you are unsure of your options and I will gladly walk you through.
Cancellation and Privacy Policies:
Please be aware that I adhere to a strict cancellation policy due to the high demand of psychological services. When a client cancels with less than 48 hours notice, this results in delays in your therapy progress, and is a missed appointment opportunity for another client who may have greatly valued this time. SMS reminders will be sent out with three day’s notice, and on the morning of your appointment. Cancellation fees apply if notice is given with less than 48 hours’ notice (i.e., $140) or less than 24 hours’ notice or no shows (full fee of consultation).
While unexpected and unforeseen events may occur (e.g., medical emergencies), and will be considered, please note that a failure to respond to the initial courtesy SMS reminder will not be considered a sufficient reason for not attending or rescheduling your appointment.
Similarly, this practice is committed to protecting your privacy as an online visitor. Any personal information collected on this website (e.g., names, living or email addresses or phone numbers collected within the online enquiry form) is used to inform the quality of the services provided to you.
